Born in Toronto and currently studying and working in London, England Marco Bertuzzo creates large, highly colourful, and seemingly allegorical paintings. Marco strives to fill each image with forms and possibly signified meaning to the point of spilling out of the frame and space, yet each has no set meaning at all. Instead, the images act rather like allegorical Rorschach ink-blots. Each piece invites the viewer to create meaning from the chaos and in doing so, fill the piece with the personal narrative that each viewer brings with them to the image. This non-didactic allegory Marco creates reflects the chaos of our “post-truth” era, where the same events can be interpreted politically, personally, and socially, in so many different ways. Marco’s historically and mythologically inspired pieces blur the line between erotic and grotesque, beautiful and gaudy, possible and impossible, meaning and meaningless.
